Assam Board Exam: End of Dilemma tomorrow!
Guwahati: In wake of the current COVID-19 pandemic in the state of Assam and for taking a consensus decision regarding holding of class X and XII examination by SEBA and AHSEC, a meeting of stakeholders is scheduled at 3 pm on June 18 at the Janata Bhawan in Guwahati.
The meeting will be chaired by Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu.
Meanwhile, All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) president Dipankar Nath stated that the uncertainty surrounding the board exams in the state is perplexing the students and parents.
Speaking to the media, Nath said that the state Health Department’s advice of not conducting the offline board exams was welcomed by the cabinet. However, the board has to come up with a strong alternative to secure the future of the students.
“If the board exams are not held amid the COVID-19 situation in the state, then a decision has to be made on how to secure the future of the student,” said Nath.
He also mentioned that alike the state of Chhattisgarh, board exams cannot be held in Assam in a similar pattern.
He also added, “The marking criteria for both SEBA and AHSEC board exams might be carried out similar to the CBSE board.”
Earlier, following a cabinet meeting on Wednesday, state health minister Keshab Mahanta said, “The health department has submitted a presentation on the matter. Since some 7 lakh students need to sit in the exams and holding the examination will lead to a possible large gathering, the state cabinet has advised that holding offline exams in the current situation. However, it’s not finalized yet. It’s just a suggestion.”
While there were around 4.4 lakh students who were to appear in high school leaving certificate (HSLC) and high madrassa exams in the state, some 2.5 lakh others were awaiting to appear higher secondary (HS).
Meanwhile, sources said that the crucial meet on Friday may try to explore alternative options of holding the exams or an online one.
